Job Summary:

The Senior Payroll Processor works closely with the Director of Payroll and assists with higher level payroll projects, troubleshooting issues and back-up to payroll processing. This position works closely with all levels of management and must have the ability to work at the macro and micro levels. The Senior Payroll Processor must be dedicated and committed to accuracy in all transactions, with the ability to question, investigate and draw conclusions independently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll as well as back-up to payroll processing for all sister companies, which consists of 4 entities and approximately 2000 employees nationwide
  • Support the payroll team and back up to the Director of Payroll
  • Assist with administering payrolls, month end consolidation and processing support as required
  • Assist with checking and auditing payrolls to ensure wage and hour compliance and internal reports are accurate
  • Project team member on all payroll software implementations and upgrades
  • Assist with annual workers’ compensation audit
  • Assist with the annual 401(k) audit and 5500 processing
  • Work closely with labor relations and assist with gathering information for CBA negotiations, information requests and grievances
  • Preparation of ad hoc reports as required
  • All other duties and projects as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business or related discipline or equivalent education, such as CPP or AA
  • Extensive work experience processing payroll, preferably with multi-state or multi-company experiernce
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll systems; UltiPro software experience strongly preferred 
  • Prior software implementation experience
  • Advanced Excel skills, with strong skills in Outlook and Word
  • Knowledge and understanding of all payroll reporting
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is key
  • Strong knowledge of wage and hour and ability to interpret wage and hour legislation
  • Stellar problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Stress tolerance and team work abilities
  • Experience processing high volume payroll
  • Union and/or multi-state payroll experience highly preferred
  • Ability to meet deadlines, with some flexibility in schedule to ensure deadlines are met

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical Working Conditions: office environment where temperatures are comfortable and noise level is low to moderate
  • Heavy Computer usage requiring frequent repetitive hand movements
  • Ability to sit for extended period
  • Must be able to hear and communicate clearly to perform job duties in person and over the telephone
  • Adequate vision required to be able to read information from printed sources and computer screens
